Come and Sing 4-part Harmony with Spirit of Harmony: York's premier men's choir. This 5-week course will give you a great introduction to singing as part of a high-quality vocal group. You'll be coached by some the UK's leading figures in the acapella world, and you'll also be given the opportunity to work towards a public performance.

During the course you'll join Spirit of Harmony in learning a new song. You'll receive special guidance from the leadership team, and be given training sessions on vocal techniques, breathing, and tuning as part of the Come and Sing group.

The 5th week of the course will take the form of a performance for your friends and family - they'll see Spirit of Harmony perform their well-varied and exciting repertoire, and you'll get the opportunity to perform the new song with the chorus.

Each evening will run from 7:30pm - 9:30pm, and includes refreshments. You'll also be invited to relax at a local pub with the chorus after each session.

This course is for men of all backgrounds and skill levels - there's no requirement to read sheet music as audio learning materials will be provided, and we will assume no previous experience in our tuition.

Shortly after you sign up you'll receive an email from us which will include learning materials for the course song. In order for you and your fellow attendees to get the most out of the course, we ask that you spend some time at home learning the song before the first session.

Can women attend?

We aren't excluding anyone from attending the course based on their gender, sex, race, nationality, religous or political views, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

That said, since Spirit of Harmony is a men's chorus, the course will be geared towards male singers, so people of other genders may not get as much out of the course.

If you're interested in joining a women's chorus, we'd recommend looking into Main Street Sound who rehearse in Acomb on Monday evenings:

Is there a minimum age?

For child protection reasons, we ask that any attendees under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult. That said, the course could be a great way to spend some quality time with your kid!

Unfortunately we won't be able to accept attendees under the age of 11.

Am I required to attend all 5 weeks?

No, although we obviously recommend it in order to get the most out of the course! Unfortunately we aren't able to offer full or partial refunds for any missed sessions.

We are providing an alternative payment option for those who want to pay week-by-week. Rather than signing up beforehand you can pay £10 on the door at the start of each session. This does work out to be more expensive than paying up-front, and will also mean we aren't able to provide access to learning materials before the start of the course. To get the best value, we strongly recommend signing up in advance.
